What makes up the price of van rental

You can't judge the price of van rental by a single number. The hourly or daily rate is the starting point, not the final bill. What matters is everything that's included and what only gets added on return. You'll find the specific rates for each van in our fleet, because they vary by vehicle size and type.

Rental period

The first item is the time you have the van for. An afternoon of moving furniture around Prague is priced differently from a three-day house move. Estimate the time realistically and add loading, unloading, refuelling and the drive back to the starting location. Fitting within your original booking is more comfortable than extending it at the last minute.

Kilometres

Mileage within the Czech Republic is unlimited with us. We don't charge for extra kilometres, so two round trips across the whole of Prague or a drive to another region won't change the final amount. Elsewhere it's common to have a limit of, say, a hundred kilometres included and a surcharge for every one after that — this item can turn a comparison of offers upside down, so ask about it first.

Motorway vignette

The vans have a valid Czech motorway vignette, and it's included in the price. So before driving on the motorway you don't need to buy or sort out anything. This applies to driving in the Czech Republic; our terms don't allow trips abroad.

Deposit

There's no deposit to pay and nothing is blocked on your card. A blocked amount isn't a fee, but you can't use the money for the duration of the rental, and with some banks it can take several weeks to be released. When comparing two offers, factor this in too — especially when you're moving and need the money for other things.

Insurance

The vans are insured and you choose a package when booking. It determines the excess you would pay in the event of damage. It's the only place where you knowingly raise the rental price in exchange for a more relaxed drive, and it's best to decide earlier than five minutes before you set off.

Why rates differ between vans

A bigger van costs more because it uses more fuel and tends to be in higher demand. The rental length also plays a role — a short slot usually works out more expensive per hour than a whole day. So the best value option isn't automatically the one with the lowest rate, but the one that matches what you're actually carrying and how long you need the van.

What the price doesn't include

The other side of the budget is the items you handle yourself. They aren't hidden, but it's good to factor them in ahead of time so nothing surprises you when you return the van.

Fuel

You pick up the van with a full tank and return it full. So you pay for exactly as much fuel as you use, at the normal pump price. All our vans run on diesel, so take care to pick the right nozzle at the pump. Plan your last fill-up near the location where you're returning the van and you'll save yourself an extra detour.

Excess in the event of damage

The amount of the excess depends on the cover package you choose when booking. It's a figure you should know before the trip, not after it. Think about where you're going and how narrow the streets will be. When moving in the city centre, higher cover pays off more often than for a single trip to a DIY store on the edge of town.

Parking

Parking in blue zones is not part of the service. If you're loading in a residential zone, sort out a parking spot in advance according to the signs in that street. At our locations, on the other hand, you can park your own car free of charge for the duration of the rental, so you pay nothing to leave it there.

How to keep the price of van rental under control

Choose the size to match your load

An unnecessarily big van costs more and is harder to park. A small one, on the other hand, forces you to make two trips, so the money saved on the rate disappears into fuel and time. Check the dimensions and payload, which ranges roughly between 1 100 and 1 450 kg depending on the model, in advance.

Book thoughtfully

You can cancel your booking free of charge up to 72 hours before the rental starts. If you're still weighing up the dates, keep this deadline in mind and don't book blindly the day before. Payment is made online by card, we don't accept cash, and you don't need to register or create a user account.

Check anything unclear in advance. You'll find answers to common questions in the FAQ section, and businesses and sole traders have their own terms in the PROFI programme.

Factor in what you don't pay the rental company

Your budget also includes your time and help with loading. An hour spent looking for somewhere to stop, or a second trip because the van was too small, costs more than the difference in rate between two models. If you're moving heavy furniture, arrange a helper in advance and have straps or blankets ready.
